The unit Pharma & Biotech Services, Sanquin Diagnostic Services, is looking for a scientist bioanalytical assay development to strengthen their R&D team. You will be actively working on setting-up assays and make them ready for validation, this concerns biomarkers and PK assays.
As Scientist you work hands-on on the development of protein- and enzymatic assays. The assays are developed on complement, auto-immune disease and haemostasis markers, therapeutic antibodies and/or immunogenicity.
The R&D team supports development of assays for pharma clients, (inter)national clinical trials and registration of new therapeutic products, on the other hand the lab runs routine diagnostics for hospitals world-wide.
You will work with pharma companies to support drug development as well as help patients worldwide by being involved in keeping the catalogue of diagnostics tests state-of-the-art.
The role on offer demands a scientifically sound background as well as a keen interest for performing experiments in the lab. Your daily work will be lab-based and consist of setting up new assays or adjusting existing assays to the needs of our clients. You will work closely with technicians and scientists to develop and qualify assays for (non)-clinical trials and routine diagnostics. You will also be a conveyer of knowledge as you will be responsible for transferring the newly set-up assays to technicians. Writing necessary documentation and ensuring compliance with regulations will also be part of your daily activities.
Who we're looking for
We are looking for candidates with a PhD in biomedical -, biopharmaceutical sciences or related sciences. You have experience with large protein and enzyme assays development (ELISA, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence). You have the ability to work on and plan multiple projects at the same time and adhere to tight deadlines.
- Experience in GxP and regulatory (EMA/FDA);
- Ability to work independently as well as being a team player.

Sanquin Diagnostic Services is a for-profit part of Sanquin and works in close collaboration with Sanquin Research. Any profit made by the for-profit parts of Sanquin feed into the not-for-profit Sanquin Research, which hosts academics. Sanquin Diagnostics Services provides advice and diagnostic services in the context of transfusion medicine, blood-transferable infections, immunopathology, coagulation and haematology. We perform highly specialised laboratory for hospitals, blood banks and midwiferies but notably also for pharmaceutical- and biotech companies. Sanquin Diagnostic Services is now in transition from mainly providing diagnostics for hospitals towards more contract research for pharma and biotech companies.
Sanquin is a knowledge centre. We communicate with customers at a high level about the technical aspects of our bioanalytical services. Our laboratories are ISO15189 certified and we work according to GCLP and GMP.
Sanquin is currently expanding their supporting role in pharma and biotech-led studies. The IPH lab offers tailor-made assays in the (pre-)clinical stage of therapeutic development and clinical testing. The IPH lab also drives its own clinical support in close-collaboration with Key Opinion Leaders in the clinic.
The development team you will be working in consists of about 20 people of whom ten PhD scientists. The R&D team works in a matrix environment with close collaborations with the robotics team, immune monitoring services and operations.
In addition, we work closely together with Sanquin’s Research department, which allows you to discuss data on a daily basis with Key Opinion Leaders in-house. As Sanquin is hired as a knowledge driven organisation, we stress continuous development. Sanquin has a lecture programme featuring (inter)national and local speakers. The research departments each run their own lecture programmes as well which allows you to stay up-to-date with the latest techniques and immunological advances. Data are discussed regarding new assays and/or findings as part of a scientific collaboration and we expect you to participate in this process.
